Lesbian fertility testing is the first step to help many women welcome a baby
Texas Fertility Center New Braunfels is a destination for patients seeking support for LGBTQ family building. Susan Hudson MD is an experienced New Braunfels fertility doctor who is committed to helping all of her patients become parents. For same-sex female couples, lesbian fertility testing is the first step on the journey.
What does lesbian fertility testing involve?
Your first appointment with Dr. Hudson will start with a discussion of your medical history. You’ll also tell our New Braunfels fertility doctor how you and your partner want to be involved in the LGBTQ family building process. For example, one of you might want to provide the eggs for the pregnancy, while the other might want to carry and deliver the baby.
This information gives Dr. Hudson an idea of which fertility treatment plan will be right for you. She will also order lesbian fertility testing to help her design your customized treatment plan. You can expect her to order several common fertility tests.
- Bloodwork to assess various reproductive hormones that provide information about ovulation and ovarian reserve (egg supply).
- A transvaginal ultrasound to look at the ovaries and gain more information about egg supply.
- A hysterosalpingogram (HSG) to determine whether the fallopian tubes are open and identify any uterine abnormalities.
Dr. Hudson may also order other diagnostic tests to get the clearest picture of your reproductive potential. Once she reviews all the results, she can help you and your partner determine which lesbian fertility treatments are right for you.
For example, intrauterine insemination (IUI) with donor sperm is often an option for women who do not have any fertility issues. In vitro fertilization (IVF) with donor sperm is typically better if there are roadblocks to conception. It’s also a great way for both female partners to take part in the LGBTQ family building process in the form of reciprocal IVF.
